Delete your account
You can delete your Antsome account, and the data that goes with it, at any time. It happens straight away and can't be undone.
If you'd like a copy of your posts, photos, videos and follows first, use You → Settings → Your data → Export everything before you delete.
In the app
- Open Antsome and go to the You tab.
- Tap the gear at the top to open Settings.
- Scroll down to Your data and tap Delete account.
- Read the list of what will be deleted, then enter your password.
- Tap Delete account.
Your account is deleted right away, and you're signed out on every device. If something interrupts the deletion partway, our server finishes it automatically within a few minutes.
If you can't use the app
If you've lost your phone or can't sign in, email
support@antsome.net
with the subject "Delete my Antsome account", and include your Antsome address (for example
alex@antsome.net).
- Send it from the recovery email address you gave when you signed up, if you gave one. That's how we'll know the request is really from you.
- If you didn't give a recovery email, send the request anyway, and we'll reply to work out how to confirm the account is yours before we delete anything.
We delete the account in the same way as the in-app option, and reply to confirm it's done.
What gets deleted
- Your profile: your name, bio and handle, your password, and your recovery email.
- Your posts, the comments other people left on them, and every photo and video you uploaded, anywhere on Antsome.
- Reactions you left on other people's posts.
- Who you follow, your followers, follow requests, your follow link, follow-back offers, and the people you've blocked or muted.
- Your device keys and push notification tokens, so you're signed out everywhere.
- Your notification and privacy settings, and your reading position.
- Direct messages people sent you, and your OFSCP contacts.
- Groups you own, with everything in them.
- Any export file you'd made.
What's kept, and for how long
- Your comments on other people's posts (and your messages in groups you didn't own) have their text and any attachments deleted. An empty placeholder marked "Deleted account" stays in its place, so the conversation still makes sense. It stays until the post's author removes it or deletes their own account (or, in a group, until the group is deleted).
- Direct messages you sent to other Antsome users stay in their inboxes, under your old address, because they're the recipient's copy. They go when the recipient deletes their account.
- Your handle is held back for 30 days so nobody can take it straight away and pretend to be you. After that, anyone can sign up with it. Only the name itself is kept, not anything linked to you.
- Backups. Our database is backed up nightly and backups are kept for about two weeks, so your data can remain in a backup for up to about 14 days before it's gone for good. We only restore a backup to recover from a failure, and if we ever do, we delete again any account that was deleted after that backup was taken.
- Server logs can mention your Antsome address. They're kept only as long as we need them to run the service.
Other OFSCP apps
If you connected with people on other OFSCP apps, when you delete your account we tell the servers of your OFSCP contacts that you've gone. We can't delete what other servers or apps already have, such as messages you sent to their users, or posts their users' apps have already loaded. To remove those, contact that app or server directly.
Deleting less than everything
- You can delete any single post or comment of yours in the app.
- Logging out removes that device's sign-in key and push notification tokens from our server, and clears the data the app saved on the device.
- To remove your recovery email, or for any other request about your data, email support@antsome.net.
